Amsterdam may be a city of bikes, but never before has someone crossed a canal with a BMX bike backflip, news agency ANP reported on Monday. Daniel Wedemeijer carried out the stunt over the Passeerdersgracht as part of the promotion for a new BMX championship in the city next month. ‘The strong winds and the rain made it extra tricky,’ Wedemeijer said afterwards. ‘I also had to cycle extremely fast to gather enough momentum to make the crossing.’ The world’s 16 best BMX freestylers will take part in the event at the Westergasfabriek complex on June 8.
